Do You Have Type II Diabetes?

Do you or someone you know have type II diabetes?  If so, you will not want to miss the info that I am about to give you right here on this website.

istock_eldery_couple_diabetes_1.jpgFirst of all, I am going to tell you something that the drug companies don’t want you to know about this disease… It’s reversible and curable!!!  That’s right, nobody who has anything to gain from your being sick and required to take their drugs will tell you this. You know why? Because you are worth more to them sick than you are healthy.  Instead, what they will tell you is exactly what most people want to hear “its not your fault”,  “Its genetic”, “its not curable” etc.

If you are one of the people who believes all of the lies that the drug companies are continuously putting out every day then you may want to stop reading here, because this information is probably not for you.  If however, you are truly interested in taking back control of your health and dramatically improving your life in the process, then keep reading.

Type II diabetes is one of the fastest growing health conditions in the US today. Its victims are getting younger and younger and it is costing the healthcare system billions of dollars per year.  The reason for this explosive epidemic is simple… Americans eat a crummy diet and don’t exercise enough.  Over the years, the quality of our food has declined, and the amount of synthetic additives and preservatives has skyrocketed.  In the mean time, we have an FDA that touts a food pyramid that is based off information dating back to the reign of Egypt, and it continuously approves “safe” drugs, only to find out years later that they cause liver, kidney, or heart damage.

Is it any wonder we have a healthcare crisis?

How can I cure my type II diabetes?

As you may have noticed, the above question is asked of yourself, not me.  The reason for this is simple.  In order to regain your health, you must take full responsibility for your health and be willing to do whatever it takes to get better.  Once you accept this, you will be ready for what I have to offer.

My unique program is unlike any program for type II diabetes that you have ever come across. Once I decide to accept you as a patient, we will get to work doing the istock-medicine-fruit-FM-3.pngnecessary lab testing to uncover any underlying metabolic imbalances that may be contributing to your diabetes disease.  One of these tests is comprehensive blood chemistry. This may possibly be the most thorough blood chemistry you have ever had. It includes a chem. 24 (not a chem. 7 or 14 like those routinely done by your PCP). It also includes a fasting glucose with an A1C level to find out how well you are regulating blood sugar, a lipid panel to determine your triglyceride and cholesterol levels, a CBC with differential to find out how well your immune system is working, 4 iron markers to determine if you have anemia or other issues, a T7 thyroid panel to determine how well your thyroid is working, a vitamin D analysis, and many others.

In addition to blood chemistry, we may also need to run a DNA based stool analysis to discover if you have underlying digestive issues or parasites that could be contributing to your diabetes problem. Other tests may include adrenal stress index, food antibody testing, and hormone analysis.
In conventional medicine, these tests are usually run individually by doctors in varying fields, and are rarely analyzed together by a single practitioner with your global health in mind.

office_pictures_071_cropped_1.jpgWith my training in functional medicine, I understand the complex interrelationships between the nervous system, the endocrine system and the immune system. I also know that these systems are intricately connected and cannot be treated individually without affecting the others. It is because of this interconnection, that the solution to your diabetes problem may not be where you think it is, or where other professionals have told you it is. This is why comprehensive lab testing is so important.

You’ll get a personalized treatment plan
Although diet and exercise play a major role in type II diabetes, it may be nearly impossible for you to overcome your illness without knowing how and why your body does what it does.  To make a long story short, you may need a very personalized diet and exercise plan developed for your specific physiology to help you overcome this disease.  That is why lab testing is so important…without it you are just throwing darts hoping to hit a bull’s-eye. Treatment is different for each patient, as everybody has his/her own unique metabolic issues. However, as a general guideline, the first thing I do is to try and find out if you have a possible immune component to your type II diabetes disease, and if so, what triggers might be causing abnormal immune activation. These can be environmental toxins, food allergies, parasites, viral or bacterial infections etc.

Because food is the easiest thing to test, and arguably the one we have the most control over, this is where I typically begin. I start by putting my patients on a 3-week elimination/provocation diet whereby we eliminate many of the known allergens from the diet. This may sometimes be accompanied with certain herbs and products to help support detoxification. At the end of the 3 week diet, we are able to find out that if by eliminating certain foods, certain aspects of your condition have improved or not. If so, we can surmise that at least some of your problem may be related to immune responses to the types of food you eat. After completing the diet, we then systematically return foods to your diet to find out how your body responds to those foods that have previously been eliminated. By doing so we are able to identify what foods are causing adverse reactions. Reactions to food can occur in many forms...digestive issues (constipation, acid reflux, indigestion, bloating, etc.), neurological and brain issues (brain fog, depression, anxiety, etc.) and musculoskeletal problems (Chronic pain or fatigue). Because of this, many people with diabetes may have food allergies and not even know it.  From a treatment perspective, it is important to find this out, because undiagnosed they will make it very difficult to normalize blood sugar.
Once all of the initial lab results come back, I am able to analyze those results from a functional medicine and nutritional perspective. First I separate all the abnormal findings from the normal ones, to determine what metabolic problems exist and what systems may be involved. I then prioritize those problems as to which ones need to be treated first. Treatment usually includes dietary modifications and nutritional supplements containing specific herbs, vitamins and minerals to help correct and support the underlying metabolic dysfunctions that are at the foundation of your particular health problem. I also coach you on proper foods, exercise and lifestyle to help you restore normal blood glucose and insulin response.

The efficacy of treatment is objectively measured by repeat lab analysis to find out if the treatment is working, does the treatment need to be modified and have the targeted metabolic problems returned to normal function indicating that no further treatment is necessary.
The ultimate goal of treatment is to return health and normal function contact_us.pngto all systems of the body, help you lose unwanted weight, help you to naturally get your blood sugar under control and return you to an active lifestyle without the ball and chain of diabetes holding you back.
